The Oliver Prior Society is an organisation that acts as a forum for schools with candidates applying to read Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge.

It holds an annual meeting in Cambridge to enable schoolteachers and university teachers of modern languages to liaise and share information.

In the course of the meeting, those attending hear of current teaching and research in modern languages at university level. There is ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

The most recent meeting took place at Selwyn College, Cambridge on Saturday 6 March 2010, when there were stimulating talks on Kafka and on the treatment of Berlin in German cinema as well as a most helpful general introduction to current research in linguistics. The text of one of the talks is included on this site as an example – click on the banner heading above this introduction.

Next year’s meeting will also take place at Selwyn College. It will be held on Saturday 12 March 2011. If anyone wishes to be added to the mailing list for attendance, then they should contact Stephen Edwards, the Honorary Secretary, at sj.edwards@monmouthschool.org.
